About
My Work
I am a
licensed clinical social worker in New York State (license # 071238). In December 2008 I received Dharma Transmission, and the accompanying title "Sensei", from Roshi Pat Enkyo O'Hara, abbot of the Village Zendo, a Zen Center in lower Manhattan. I thus became a teacher in internationally recognized Soto Zen lineage of Taizan Maezumi Roshi.
Although
therapy and Zen are not the same, they have certain affinities.
Both involve self-examination in an atmosphere
of safety,
security and compassion. Both help people to connect with the
joy of life, despite its suffering, and to discover their own
path
in a noisy and confusing world.
In
my work, I use traditional therapeutic methods, visualization,
hypnotherapy and Buddhist
mindfulness techniques. The methods
I use depend on the needs and desires of the patient. No two
patients
are
alike, and different methods work for different people.
My
goal for each patient is that they overcome the inner obstacles
that keep them from fulfillment. When people put down the
baggage they are carrying, they begin to trust themselves and
develop
the self-confidence to pursue their own purposes and dreams.
Then therapy
ends and a fuller, more creative life begins.
